Asking for support with your parenting can be hard, and just like any service, you deserve to know that you are dealing with a skilled, experienced professional when you are thinking of paying for a service.
Having worked with countless families over the last 15 years, in their homes and in the community, I have a strong background in supporting families to utilise strengths and resources they have at their disposal, as well as working with parents to tighten things up a little in other areas. Service knowledge, referral support and advocacy, along with quick and easy rapport building are all key features of my work.
I have worked for big NGO’s and local and state government departments in the child and family space for nearly 15 years supporting parents and young people. I worked mostly in family services case management roles, but also have additional experience working in statutory roles in Child Protection and the Out of Home space. I also did some time working as a student wellbeing specialist in a public secondary school, which helped further my understanding of some of the broader challenges facing families today.
I also bring personal experience to my work, having learned from many mistakes I made when I was younger, going back to school in my mid-thirties to complete a Diploma in Community Services, and then having children: who are now two teenagers on whom I get to put theory into practice every day. Like most of us, I get it wrong from time to time, but the point is to keep learning and evolving from our experiences.
Underpinning my work is my strong belief that effective and sustainable changes in the home are driven largely by parents and caregivers. We set the tone and make the rules (and pay the bills) but it’s also our job to set the example and show our kids the way. While I have always worked with the family unit, most of my work focuses on the parents and care givers to help give them the skills and confidence they need to have themselves and their families running smoothly – and happily.
